History (draft)
In History at HCC you will be encouraged to immerse yourself in the past. Building on the skills you have begun to master at Key Stage 3, you will study Medicine in Britain followed by a more in-depth study of Early Elizabethan England. We then turn our attention across the ocean to investigate the American West and understand the modernisation of America. As we enter year 11, equipped with our investigative skills from year 10, we delve into a case study of Surgery on the Western Front before finishing our historical journey with an in-depth exploration of Germany between the wars and the rise of Hitler and the Nazis.

What makes us special?
At HCC we work hard to cater for the needs of all students - we tailor teaching to the needs of classes and run bespoke revision sessions to support students to progress beyond lessons. Our KS3 curriculum prepares students well for the skills and concepts they need to understand in order to succeed at GCSE, giving them a solid base from which to work in KS4. At HCC we have committed and passionate teachers whose subject knowledge allows them to design outstanding lessons that engage and inspire students.
Assessment
History is formed of three GCSE papers to examine your knowledge and skills, all sat at the end of Y11. These give you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the four main concepts: change and continuity, historical significance, similiarity and difference, and cause and consequence. Through practice, teaching and assessment, you will be well-prepared to excel.
Progression & careers
Achieving a GCSE in History at HCC will allow you to continue your studies to A Level at your chosen provider. Our chosen options allow students to gain a wide understanding of the history of the world. The skills which you will acquire during your studies will also equip you for other chosen paths as we work on developing your critical thinking, ability to unpick questions, interrogate meaning and express your opinions. One of the key skills historians develop at HCC is their ability to write at length whilst maintaining a tight focus on the subject.
