We believe that all students, including those identified as having special educational needs and/or disabilities, are entitled to a broad & balanced academic and social curriculum which is accessible to them. We support all our students to be fully included in all aspects of school life.
Inclusivity at Honiton Community College
To ensure our school is inclusive, the College supports pupils with special educational needs in a variety of ways.
SPECIALISTS IN THEIR FIELD
We have a full-time Special Needs Coordinator who is a qualified teacher and holds the National Award for SEND Coordination, and an Assistant Special Educational Needs Coordinator – as well as a team of Learning Support Assistants.
PASTORAL & WELLBEING TEAMS
Our Pastoral Support Team is made up of both teaching and non-teaching staff who support and challenge our students to attain their very best. We also have a Wellbeing team who provide all our students with social & emotional support.
SPECIALIST COMMUNICATION SKILLS
A number of our staff have additional training in Speech, Language and Communication Needs, Autistic Spectrum Condition, Specific Learning Difficulties such as Dyslexia, Social Skills programmes, fine and gross motor skills programmes.
PERSONAL SUPPORT PACKAGES
We provide personalised support packages for students on the autistic spectrum or who have Speech, Language and Communication needs.
