Science (draft)
"The important thing is to never stop questioning" Albert Einstein "Millions saw the apple fall but Newton asked why" Bernard Baruch
Human nature is to seek answers to explain the phenomena experienced through their interactions with the world. It is our vision to distil a lifelong love of science within our pupils, so that they can explain the world around them.
What makes us special?
Through our curriculum we want every student to build on these observations, discovering how 500 years of scientific endeavour has created theories to rationalize the inexplicable. The skills and attitudes built from our rich and varied science curriculum will equip each child for the increasingly scientific and technological age in which we live.
Assessment
At GCSE, there are six written exam papers in total. Students will sit two examination papers for each of Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Foundation and Higher Tier papers are available; all papers are equally weighted.
Progression & careers
The courses provide routes into Further Education or employment. Science has links to virtually every sector of the employment market and is seen as a key qualification by the majority of employers. We have an excellent track record of placing students onto science-based courses at university in both the academic and vocational areas.
Students will have access to a wide range of employment areas, such as nursing and medicine, agriculture, engineering, pharmaceuticals, forensic science, veterinary, dentistry, marine biology, astronomy, physics and environmental aspects such as renewable energy and pollution. The list of potential opportunities is vast, and a sound education in science provides the platform to fulfil such ambitions.
