Computing at Honiton Community College

Encouraging exploration through information technology. Welcome to ICT and Computing. Our outstanding department aims to ensure students are confident, creative and productive users of computers and software. Our three dedicated air-conditioned computer suites are complimented by our incredible ICT Studio. Combined with access to a comprehensive range of applications we integrate digital literacy, computing and ICT to ensure our students have an engaging ICT education to prepare them for the 21st Century. At the heart of our learning strategy is an enjoyable and practically focused curriculum.

GCSE Computer Science

Our GCSE in Computer Science is engaging and practical, encouraging creativity and problem solving. It encourages students to develop their understanding and application of the core concepts in computer science. Algorithms, Programming, System Architecture and the impact of IT. Students also analyse problems in computational terms and devise creative solutions by designing, writing, testing and evaluating programs. This is an ideal course for anyone looking to enter computing, science, engineering or business sectors. An essential course for the 21st century.

L2 Cambridge Nationals in ICT

This qualification offers an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. With two compulsory units covering computers systems and business skills this qualification fully implements the wolf review to provide an industry-relevant course that suits a broad range of learning styles.

L2 Cambridge Nationals in IMedia

This qualification equips students with the wide range of knowledge and skills needed to work in the creative digital media sector. They start at pre-production and develop their skills through practical assignments as they create final multimedia products. The course has an engaging, practical and inspiring approach to learning and assessment. Foundational skills and knowledge are built with two compulsory units covering Pre-Production Skills and Creating digital graphics. Then a wide range of creative units can be explored from 3D digital characters, photography, Video, Story boarding and onto game concepts and game creation. Finally two units are chosen to submit as formal assessment in year 11. This is an ideal course for anyone looking to use Information technologies in a creative or design sector.

L3 Cambridge Technicals in IT

This new generation of vocational qualification offers an exciting, inspiring and challenging qualification create to develop transferable skills that are essential in the workplace or for further study.

A-Level Computer Science

This course introduces students to the world of Computer Science where they will explorer the inner workings of the machine and the principles on which all modern computers are designed. This course is the ideal choice for students considering a career in the IT sector or further study at degree level.
