Honiton Community College Post 16 students are celebrating another great set of results!

Despite Ofqual announcing results this year would be lower than those gained in 2021 (when grades were awarded by teacher assessment), our class of 2022 actually achieved an even higher average point score than the excellent ones gained last year! This is an amazing feat and on behalf of Governors and staff I congratulate all of our students. They have certainly triumphed over adversity! They have endured so much over the last two years and should be extremely proud of their success. Let’s not forget, this year group have endured two lockdowns, a war in Europe and political and financial unrest, on top of the usual trials and tribulations of Post-16 study and life in general!

The overwhelming majority of awarded grades reflect the hard work and potential of our students. Individual results were well deserved; achieved through shear effort and dedication, together with plenty of resilience and stickability!

Every student who chose to go to university got accepted with 92% achieving their first choice, many of these being to a prestigious Russell Group institution.

Students were clearly excited about the future and here are a few quotes from individuals:
Holly Henwood (AAAB) There are no words to describe the extent of how over the moon I am with my results! It has been a truly crazy two years with so many obstacles, but I wouldn’t change a single second of it. Thanks to the support from Honiton Post-16, the amazing staff, and my incredible friends and family, I can proudly say that I’m heading off to my first-choice university. This September I will be off to Loughborough University to read Sport and Exercise Psychology and I cannot wait! I’m so grateful for all the opportunities presented to me at Honiton Post-16 and I could not recommend Honiton enough!

Poppy Taylor (Dist,Dist,A) I am absolutely over the moon with my results. It has been an extremely difficult two years within education but looking back I wouldn’t change a minute of it. Thanks to all of the incredible support received from both staff and peers during my time here which has helped me achieve these grades. I can happily say that I am now off to my first-choice university. In September I will be reading Health and Exercise Science at the University of Bath. I am extremely thankful for all of the opportunities provided over the past two years which has helped me reach this stage and could not recommend Honiton Post-16 enough!

Emily Kellow (AAABC) I am absolutely thrilled with my results! We haven’t had an easy time in education in the last three years. Through all the highs and lows Honiton Post-16 has always been there to support me and all the pupils in the centre, creating an amazing environment to help me succeed and prepare me to move to Scotland for university at Glasgow. I am incredibly excited for the next part of my journey but will never forget my time here at Honiton community college and Post-16 Centre for the last seven years. I am so grateful for all the staff that have helped support me and gave me all the opportunities over the years!

Erin Humphris (AAAAA, Dist) I am so very happy with my results and very relieved after the long wait between completing the exams and now! The Post-16 team have been really helpful and flexible during my three years here. They welcomed me to stay an extra year and take on extra A levels in order to allow me to apply for the university course I decided I wanted. Now I am off to study Natural sciences at the University of Exeter and I am excited to see what this brings me in the future. The hard work paid off! Thank you to Selena, Mr Smith, all my teachers and the Post-16 team at HCC!

Oliver Strachen (B, Merit, Merit) I’m really happy with my results. I was pleasantly surprised with them. The amount and time and effort I put in has finally paid off. Post-16 over the last two years has been brilliant. It provided a place to study before, during and after college hours. Selena has been there to guide me throughout, as have all my teachers. Moving on, I am commencing an apprenticeship in Arboriculture with a local company, Wildwood Trees and Timber. Really excited for the future. Thanks to everyone at HCC.

Kacey Welch (Dist, Dist*,B)I am so happy with my results I cannot put it into words. Post-16 has definitely helped to shape me into the person I am today and all the support I have received from the staff was amazing. During my time here I have decided to go into the Police Force and I’m currently aiming to start in January 2023. I couldn’t have done this without sixth form and I am super grateful for it! My past two years have been amazing, and I’ve become a lot closer with friends which I know will be around for the rest of my life. Thank you HCC and Post-16.

As Principal of the college, I know every student will echo my sentiments when I praise staff here at the college. They’re a fabulous group of supportive and talented professionals, who consistently go above and beyond. Staff are a significant ingredient in our recipe for Post-16 success, year upon year, but I want to acknowledge the length colleagues have gone these past couple of years to support our young adults through such unprecedented times. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude, on behalf of all of our community, for the amazing work of Selena Burroughs, Assistant Principal (Director of Post-16 studies), who leads, manages, guides, encourages, motivates and supports our students (as well as her colleagues) each and every day.

Selena Burroughs said: “Each and every one of these students have ridden the most turbulent ride in education over the last 2 years but should feel very proud of their achievements both inside and out of the classroom. They have shown great effort, determination and kept their vision of what the future holds for them which has resulted in a set of grades that we are very proud of them achieving. Their individual personality and character have fully enriched the college for the last 7 years which we have all enjoyed and I wish them all a safe and exciting future in their next step of life’s adventure. “Our students have shown real dedication to their studies and resilience in sitting their formal exams and assessments after the disruption of the pandemic. Undoubtedly, this will stand them in good stead whatever choices they make about their next steps, whether that be an undergraduate course, apprenticeship, or employment.”
